Remedy Entertainment has decided to go ahead with one of their best-performing series in an innovative way. They have revealed a sequel to the highly-acclaimed 2019 Control. Titled Control Resonant, the upcoming game has been revealed through an announcement on Xbox Wire
and is expected to release later in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, Xbox Play Anywhere included.
Control Resonant promises a completely different experience from its predecessor. While the original Control had a reputation for featuring supernatural gunfighting along with reality-distorting environments, the upcoming title will be built around a fast-paced melee action RPG formula. The player will control Dylan Faden, the brother of Jesse Faden, the main character from the previous entry in the series. The gameplay will revolve around the usage of an enigmatic transforming weapon called the Aberrant, capable of switching between blades, hammers, whips, and scythes.

The game will focus on a story that happens seven years after the events from the original. The hostile supernatural entity called the Hiss, which was contained by the Federal Bureau of Control in its headquarters, has managed to escape into Manhattan. The reality is falling apart, and players need to defeat various enemies, unlock new abilities
One of the most amazing aspects of Control Resonant is its RPG-style customizable character. It involves creating an individualized build for the player by combining various weapon types and abilities acquired from unlocking skill trees and unique powers earned by defeating powerful bosses known as Resonants. All choices remain permanent, allowing the player to experiment freely. According to Remedy, it is all possible because of the vast possibilities that arise when forming one’s character.

Compared to its predecessor, the visual aspect of the sequel appears much more diverse. Rather than exploring the brutalist architecture of the Oldest House, players will traverse through several unique districts of New York City that have been transformed into something quite horrifying.
A further landmark is that Control Resonant will be independently published by Remedy Entertainment. This allows for greater artistic and business control over one of their most profitable original IPs. In addition, it represents the continuation of Remedy Entertainment’s overall vision, where they own and expand their IP portfolio without completely depending on external publishers.

The Xbox versions of the game will have the full Xbox Play Anywhere functionality, meaning once purchased online, gamers will be able to play the game on all Xbox devices and Windows PCs with their game progress saved on Microsoft’s cloud storage service.
It is expected that Control Resonant will be one of the most ambitious titles of 2026. With an entirely new hero, complex combat system, RPG features, and supernatural elements unique to Remedy Entertainment, the title will undoubtedly capitalize on the strengths of its predecessor while providing an action-oriented experience.
