The Lenovo has announced its latest generation of 16-inch ThinkPad worldwide. With the help of AMD Zen 5 chips and up to 64 GB of RAM, the ThinkPad E16 Gen 4 also comes with a 64 Wh battery and a 120 Hz VRR screen that provides 500 nits brightness.
It hasn’t been much time since Lenovo launched its affordable variants of ThinkPad E16 Gen 3. The most recent ThinkPad E16 Gen 3 is available worldwide and is expected to be better than the Arrow Lake U variant that we reviewed about a year ago (currently $999 at Amazon).
At the moment, there have been no Lunar Lake variants being sold by Lenovo in North America. However, Lenovo has posted the Gen 4 variants with AMD processors on PSREF. The ThinkPad E16 Gen 4, which will come with Radeon 820M, Radeon 840M and Radeon 860M graphics through Krackan Point and Gorgon Point processors, will be available with the following processors:
- Ryzen AI 5 330 – 4 cores, 8 threads, Radeon 820M
- Ryzen AI 5 Pro 340 – 6 cores, 12 threads, Radeon 840M
- Ryzen AI 5 430 – 4 cores, 8 threads, Radeon 840M
- Ryzen AI 5 435 – 6 cores, 12 threads, Radeon 840M
- Ryzen AI 7 345 – 6 cores, 12 threads, Radeon 820M
- Ryzen AI 7 445 – 6 cores, 12 threads, Radeon 840M
- Ryzen AI 7 450 – 8 cores, 16 threads, Radeon 860M
However, the ThinkPad E16 Gen 4 laptop will not have an option for a discrete graphics card despite being 356 x 249 mm in size and weighing 1.63 kg. However, there will be two M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSDs along with two SODIMMs supporting a maximum of 64 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and either a 48 Wh or 64 Wh battery. Additionally, Lenovo will provide the following IPS screens on its affordable 16-inch ThinkPad:
The price and availability are still to be announced at this point. According to my research, Lenovo has yet to release information about the ThinkPad E16 Gen 4 on any of its regional sites. Information regarding the new ThinkPad E16 will be available on their PSREF site.
